The Premier League of Darts rolled into the Utilita Arena in Birmingham last night and boy was I was lucky enough to have a seat.

After a sleepless night that consisted of excited turns and nervous thoughts, It was finally time to make our way up to the Midlands. With high hopes of an all Welsh final, the bucket hats were cemented firmly on our heads and the Welsh flags were flying in the M5 wind.

On arrival to the Utilita Arena, which was branded as home for the night for 15,000 avid dart fanatics, we were immeditaltly ordered to change our Cymru football tops and wear ‘less controversial’ outfits. So, after 3 hours in the car, we were on our way back to find the appropriate outfit for a night of arrows.

Take two shall we?

After finally entering the arena with much relief on our faces, we were greeted by a group of individuals supporting their extremely fashionable Euro 2020 England jerseys. See the hypocrisy? Me neither.

However, we were in and ready for the rollercoaster ride of arrows. Before the main event started, it was time to splash some cash on 4 pinters and burgers which ONLY cost £40. Yes, you heard me, forty great British pounds. At this point, we were informed that we were in for an expensive evening to say the least.

As the drink began to flow, the darts took flight and what a match up to wet the appetite. Mighty Michael Van Gerwen, 3 time winner of the championship, took on the struggling Geordie Chris Dobey.

As expected, the mean green throwing machine started with a breath taking first leg hitting two 180’s and a 101 checkout. Despite, Dobeys’ 106 average, it was the Dutchman who advanced int0 the first semi final of the evening.

The Ferret, Jonny Clayton made a strong start to his week 10 Premier League defence by defeating a tough Nathan Aspinall 6-4.

At this point, the beer was going down like water and the money was leaking out of the bank account at the speed of sound. As the memory became fuzzy, the matches continued to flow at a tremendous place.

Due to my Dory memory, here are the rest of the results:

Dimitri Van den Bergh 5-6 Gerwyn Price
Peter Wright 1-6 Michael Smith

Semi-Finals
Michael van Gerwen 3-6 Jonny Clayton
Gerwyn Price 5-6 Peter Wright

Final
Jonny Clayton 6-5 Peter Wright

The Ferret claimed the evening and I saw Emma Paton. Who’s the real winner?

After a night out on the dark damp Birmingham town, it was time to tackle the very hungover drive back to South Wales.

The End.
