As a University student for the past 2 and a half years, motivation is something that has come and gone at will and has hampered my performance.
Living through a pandemic and having our course tampered with due to restrictions has been challenging. Heading into the unknown of education and being locked inside my house has been challenging. However, that has not stopped me from progressing into the professional industry.
Talking to Henry Winter over a Zoom call and hearing him list industry positives for Covid – 19, taught me that no matter what happens in the world, the sports journalism industry will thrive and overcome obstacle stood in its way.
I now realise that creating my own opportunities is the key to success and a main factor of remaining motivated.
On reflection I believe my academic journey could have been improved had I created and made more opportunities during my first year of studies.
However, my work placements at Overtime Heroics MMA, Combat Sports UK, Cardiff City Ladies and Wales Online, have shaped me into being a versatile journalist who can adapt to any given scenario.
In the future, I will use my lack of motivation to find myself new opportunities in the industry and use my lack of motivation as a positive to make myself a better journalist.
