A grand view research study has investigated the growth of podcasts and expects a potential compound annual growth rate of 27.5% for the industry from 2022 – 2027. This suggests that podcasts could become a $60.5B industry by the end of 2027.
In 2021, Jendo and I released a brand-new podcast called Overtime MMA which focused on Mixed Martial Artists and their journey thus far.
At first, I was nervous about the prospect of talking to the stars of the sport and their mentors. With the industry being slated as ‘The New Wave of Sports Journalism’ by my co-host, the pressure was on my back.
Were the nerves a case of being worried that I wouldn’t fit into the podcasting industry? Not that I’m aware of. Was it the possibilities of being told that I wasn’t good enough for the largest sports journalism industry? I don’t think so. So, where was this fear coming from?
In the first episode of Overtime MMA, I was stuttering through my questions and throwing the aroma of nerves into our Zoom call. However, after the episode was released, the positive feedback from Lewis Simpson of Overtime Heroics MMA, and my Co Host Jendo, was received, and I was reassured that I was made for the industry.
Lewis told me that it was a positive start and a picture-perfect fit for the Overtime Heroics YouTube channel. Jendo claimed that I was a ‘breath away’ from a ‘smooth sailing journey’ and that success was imminent.
I believe feeling these insecurities in an industry which is full of confident professionals is only human and is a way to grow and improve as a sport journalist.
I believe that I will succeed in the podcasting industry, and I look forward to working in a $60.5B industry in which the possibilities are endless.
